I am so excited to announce our new partnership with “Someone With,” an online source of products cancer patients can safely use.
This is a wonderful resource for cancer fighters and survivors, as well as their caregivers or friends. All products available on the site are pre-screened by a physician, so you can feel confident you’re using things that are gentle and free of potentially harsh and harmful ingredients.
Jill Kerr, president of the company, initially contacted me about including CV Skinlabs on her list of safe skin care products, and I was so honored to work with her. She was kind enough to tell me more about the company and their mission for serving cancer patients.
How did the company get started?
Paula Jagemann, founder and CEO of Someone With, is often described as a “serial entrepreneur.” She started early working with technology companies and did so well that she was able to retire at a young age, after which she devoted her time to philanthropic work. She found herself on the board of the Frederick Memorial Hospital, and part of a panel for a new women’s center.
The hospital was interested in starting a brick and mortar store to carry products specifically for cancer patients. Paula, with her technology background, realized immediately that an online store could serve many more patients across the country. She spent a considerable amount of time researching products, interviewing cancer patients, and collecting data about side effects and other challenges of treatment. She soon discovered that finding products safe for cancer patients could be a daunting, time-consuming task-and one that most patients were completely unprepared for.
Even a list of “must-have” products necessary for a patient going through a mastectomy could take five hours or more to track down. Paula was determined to shrink that search to 30 minutes, by creating a centralized site where patients could easily find the products they needed.
Packed with Compassion
While thinking of a name for the new site, Paula realized that we all know “someone with.” It could be someone with breast cancer, lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, etc. So the company was born.
Jill Kerr, a technology mogul herself, joined the company as president about a year ago, at Paula’s request. “Paula is a very irresistible person,” Jill says. “She’s one of the biggest-hearted people I’ve ever met.”
Jill’s goals are to continue to expand the site to provide more products and services to consumers, while maintaining the caring touch the company has come to be known for.
“Our tagline is ‘Packed with Compassion,’” she says, “and that’s a big part of what we do. We take the products off the shelves, we think about the person who is getting that package, and I say a little blessing for that person. Everything we send we think about the recipient.”
Jill tells the story of Jane Chisholm in the fulfillment department, a cancer survivor herself, who ran down the postman to be sure she could get a package in the mail to a customer on time. “She will go to the ends of the Earth to make sure something is delivered,” Jill says. “She knows what it’s like to be on the waiting end.”
Why CV Skinlabs?
When Jill heard about CV Skinlabs, she knew right away the products were perfect for the site.
“My first thought was that I didn’t even really need to run these products by our physician, as there was so much attention placed on the ingredients,” she says.
When Jill received samples of the products, she gave some to her mother to try. “She had just had surgery on her face. She is 87 years old, but she still wants to look good. She didn’t want to have a scar! So I gave her the Restorative Skin Balm, and she said, ‘Well, that stuff is really working!’ She’s healing well and she has no scarring.”
