I was at Barnes and Noble today and purchased a great book that caught my eye:Anticancer: A New Way Of Life, written by David Servan-Schreiber. David is a dedicated scientist and doctor who was diagnosed with brain cancer. He underwent the recommended surgery and returned to his usual routines. Five years later, his tumor returned. In the course of enduring a second surgery and a round of chemotherapy, he finally experienced his wake-up call: his high-stress and low-exercise lifestyle along with his highly processed diet full of sugary foods and red meat, were no longer going to work for him. He had to make a huge lifestyle change and rid his body of all the toxins.

About.com book review says, “Anticancer is a great choice for anyone looking for lifestyle changes they can start making today to reduce their risk of cancer occurrence or recurrence. The book provides specific advice for preventing a variety of cancers, including colon and breast cancer.”

Anticancer tells us:

Why the traditional Western diet creates the conditions for disease and how to develop a science-based anticancer diet

How and why sugar and stress feed cancer—and ways to achieve life balance and good nutrition that combats it

Why the effects of helplessness and unhealed wounds affect our ability to restore health

How to reap the benefits of exercise, yoga, and meditation

How to minimize environmental toxins

How to find the right blend of traditional and alternative health care

I’m intrigued, especially after watching the video and reading all the great reviews from the New York Times and Cancer Book Review. This author’s theories are aligned with what I believe, especially on nutrition and stress management. I invite you to watch the short clip on a very inspiring interview with David. I’m starting to read the book tonight and I’ll keep you posted on my thoughts!

If you’ve read this book, please share your comments and opinions.
