Toxin Alert: The Story of Bottled Water

+ Pamela Friedman

Earlier this year I urged you to view the video “The Story of Cosmetics,” produced by Free Range Studios, created by activist Annie Leonard and supported by the Environmental Working Group. Those of you who watched it got a new insight into how chemicals in our shampoos, lipsticks, and aftershaves can cause health problems like asthma, cancer, and learning disabilities.

Now I’m excited to tell you about another video put out by the same group called “The Story of Bottle Water.” I’ve been telling you about the dangers of BPA in plastic bottles, and how some of the other chemical contaminants in the plastic have been linked to cancer. Tests have even found that the quality of the water itself varies from brand to brand, and that much of it is no cleaner than tap water.

Meanwhile, most of us know how these plastic bottles are polluting the environment and using up valuable energy that we can’t afford to waste. This video makes this whole concept even clearer, with its friendly cartoon figures and Annie’s no-nonsense, common-sense way of putting it all together. She tells us the truth about the quality of the water in those pristine-looking bottles, how corporations have duped us into thinking bottled water is necessary and safe, and even sheds light on where those supposed “recycled” bottles are ending up.

You owe it to yourself, your family, and our planet to take just a few minutes out of your busy schedule to watch this video. You may find that it changes your mind about buying your next bottle of water!

Did you watch this video? What did you think?
