Phthalates are indeed bad chemicals and are found in a wide variety of products. Fragrances very often contain phthalates and you most likely will never know. Fragrance manufacturers are not required to list ingredients due to the sensitive nature of the formulation itself; to protect the recipe so to speak. You may see "fragrance" listed as an ingredient in a product, but you don't know the ingredients that make up that fragrance. On the bright side, however, many fragrance manufacturers have already shifted their formulas to be phthalate-free. Hopefully the rest will follow suit.
